10 Top Skin Care Tips from an Esthetician
Meet Vickie Pellagrino! Vickie has been a licensed esthetician for over 15 years and now serves as our Corporate Educator.
From teaching at the Lydia Sarfati Post Graduate Skin Care Academy in the U.S., to training centers in Europe, Vickie is dedicated to sharing her esthetic knowledge and skills with other professionals around the globe so they can be the best at what they do!
We sat down with Vickie and asked her to share her top 10 skin care tips that she believes everyone should commit to for flawless-looking and glowing skin.
1. Stay hydrated
Everyone should be drinking at least 8 glasses of water per day.
Your skin will look more firm, and visible signs of aging won’t be as prominent if you are staying properly hydrated.
2. Stick to a skin care routine
Be as consistent as possible with your morning and night skin care routines.
Try not to switch up products often. Have patience, find products that deliver results and work for your skin, and stick with those.
3. Pay attention to the order you apply products in
The order in which you apply your products in your skin care routine is essential.
In general, a routine should be cleanser, toner, serum and then moisturizer. This is the most effective order and will ensure that your skin stays glowing morning and night.
4. Shield your skin
You should be shielding your skin from the elements every day.
I always apply Mineral Face Shield right after my moisturizer to help shield the skin against environmental aggressors. It works great as a makeup primer, too!
5. Perform facial massage at home
Never underestimate the importance of a good facial massage.
They don’t have to come from a pro, either – you can incorporate massage into your own skin care routine, both morning and night, during serum application, using massage tools like an Ionto Massager or Silver Ball Massager.
Massaging your skin can help improve the appearance of skin firmness – it’s like exercise for your face!
6. Exfoliate
You should be exfoliating two to three times every week.
Exfoliating helps to remove dead skin from the surface layer of your skin and reveals newer, brighter-looking skin.
Exfoliating is also very important for makeup application. As we age, skin cell turnover takes longer, so it’s especially important to regularly exfoliate.
7. Be conscious of your diet
What you put on the inside is reflected on the outside. You may be more prone to problem skin if you are eating processed and unhealthy foods.
Try to eat healthy, nutritious foods — less sugar, more whole foods, vegetables and lean proteins. Your skin (and body) will thank you!
8. Exercise
Exercise can play a big role in maintaining healthy-looking and glowing skin.
By exercising, you are increasing blood flow and sweating out toxins that can lead to clogged pores and unhealthy skin.
9. Stop touching your face
I’m sure you’ve heard it time and time again, but you should not be touching your face for any reason or picking at your skin.
When you touch your face, all the dirt and grime that has accumulated on your hands is now being transferred to your face.
Picking at your face is never a good idea – you should always leave extractions to a licensed esthetician. I know it’s tempting, but let us handle it!
10. Mask twice a week
Why to use a mask? Masking is a quick and easy way to help deliver powerful ingredients to your skin in less than 15 minutes.
With so many masks to pick from, you can always find one to fit your skin’s needs.
